Oiso-born Shonanonomi Celebrates Juryo Championship, Set to Return to Makuuchi in Autumn Tournament

Shonanonomi, 28, of Takadagawa stable, who won the Juryo division at the July Nagoya tournament, was honored at a victory celebration on September 1 at Oiso Prince Hotel. About 150 people including members of his support association and backers attended the event, which marked his successful push back toward the top division. Organizers and supporters expressed pride and high hopes as he prepares to return to the Makuuchi division for the autumn tournament. Shonanonomi’s promotion restores a top-division presence for his hometown of Oiso.
