Toshiko Takagi, author of the children’s novel ‘Glass Rabbit’ which recounts her childhood experience of losing her father to machine-gun fire while evacuated to Ninomiya, died of old age on August 8 at 94. The book drew on those wartime memories and brought attention to civilian suffering. Takagi was born in Tokyo and remained associated with the area where she had been evacuated as a child.
