High School Student Spots Poachers Using Drone and AI

A joint project started last year by Kanagawa Prefectural Marine Science High School, Kanto Gakuin University, the Yokosuka Coast Guard, and Yokosuka City has used drones and AI to monitor and deter illegal fishing of marine resources. The program produced significant results when a high school student operating the drone detected poachers from above, contributing to enforcement efforts. The collaboration aims to continue using aerial surveillance and AI analysis to protect local fisheries.
