Known as a town portraitist who connects people through smiles, Fukuda Kumiko creates likenesses from subjects’ character and atmosphere rather than strict photographic detail. She exhibits her work around Yokosuka City and has produced portraits of figures including Mayor Katsuaki Uechi, Japan national soccer player Junya Ito, and Nobel Prize laureates. Fukuda lives in Ōyabe, Yokosuka City, and continues her community-focused activities at age 66.
