Children Light Handmade Bamboo Lanterns at Katase Nishihama and Kugenuma Beaches

竹灯籠で敬う海、山、先祖 児童ら光にうっとり

As part of the Enoshima Beach Cooperative’s workshop “Play and Learn: Sea School,” children on summer break lit handmade bamboo lanterns on the sand at Katase Nishihama and Kugenuma beaches. Attendance was about twice last year’s number, and participants watched the lights with delight as the lanterns honored the sea, the mountains, and their ancestors. The event combined crafts, environmental education, and local tradition to engage young people with the coastal landscape.
