Kazuhiko Ikeda, a 49-year-old Chigasaki resident, is the initiator and an executive committee member of the “Chigasaki Children’s Election,” a mock voting program for young people under 18 who cannot vote. He says, “The town is something we build ourselves,” reflecting the project’s aim to teach civic participation. The event debuted in 2022 and is being organized again to coincide with the upcoming Chigasaki mayoral election this autumn.
