Hiratsuka City’s Role as a 'Nuclear Weapons Abolition Peace City' by Councilor Yumiko Sato

In 1985 (Showa 60), Hiratsuka City declared itself a ‘Nuclear Weapons Abolition Peace City’ and has carried out peace initiatives under the banner ‘I Love Peace.’ This year marks the 81st anniversary of the Hiratsuka air raid and the end of the war; more than 360 people died in the Hiratsuka air raid. Councilor Yumiko Sato discussed the city’s ongoing role and efforts in peace work tied to that history.
