Kenichi Ikuta appointed superintendent of Yokosuka City Board of Education

Kenichi Ikuta, a 44-year-old Yokosuka City employee, has assumed the role of superintendent of the Yokosuka City Board of Education. He says his goal is to create schools where “no one is left alone,” as the city faces challenges including declining academic performance, school absenteeism, the role of club activities, school reorganizations due to population decline, and reforms to teachers’ working conditions. Ikuta will be responsible for pushing forward necessary reforms in the city’s public school system amid these pressing issues.
